Python Developer

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Junior or Midweight Python Developer. In this role, you will be developing our Materials Search platform, and working directly on our document processing pipeline.

Tasks

As a Python Developer, you will work directly with our senior developer and our scientific delivery team to develop our Materials Search platform. You will also be directly responsible for developing our document processing pipeline, working with text-analysis and ML technologies.

Knowledge about Materials Science is not required

• You will build new features, and maintain and improve existing features, in both our existing computational science platform and our internal R&D tools
• Work with our material scientists to fine-tune our computations for maximum performance
• Work with our Devops team to deploy and manage our applications

Requirements

• You hold a degree in Computer Science or a related field
• You have 2+ years relevant professional experience with Python
• Ability to work autonomously and self-manage
• You excel at practical problem solving and enjoy the challenge of finding new solutions to difficult problems
• Fluent in spoken and written English, German skills are a plus
• You live in Munich or want to move to Munich within 3-4 months and are then willing to work ca. 50% of your time on-site

Not required, but a strong plus:

• Experience in text processing and analysis, NLP, or automated processing workflows
• Experience integrating with LLMs or Generative AI

Not required, but a plus:

• Experience working in computational science (Quantum Espresso and LAMMPS) or ML (scikit-learn) is a plus, as is working with working with customer-facing web-applications, Javascript, or Ruby on Rails
• Experience working in a startup environment
