We are seeking a Head of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (m/f/d) for one of our portfolio startups based in Munich. This is a confidential search, and further details will be shared during the next stages of the hiring process.
Tasks
Strategy & Direction
- Collaborate with the Executive Team to define short-, mid-, and long-term business goals and financial targets. Be a close sparring partner to the CEO in driving growth, ensuring sound governance and risk management.
- Develop and execute the appropriate funding strategy to support the business goals.
- Provide the relevant financial and commercial metrics allowing management to understand the state of the business, to steer the business in real-time, and to course-correct where necessary
- Develop and implement the strategic roadmap for financial systems to support the company’s financial objectives and growth.
- In all cases, track progress against objectives, making course corrections as needed.
Financial Responsibilities
- Financial planning & analysis: oversee planning, budgeting, controlling and reporting, ensuring alignment with organizational goals; manage the preparation of accurate reports, providing actionable insights to support decision-making
- Accounting: oversee all accounting activities, ensure financial accounts are prepared in compliance with respective accounting standards, ensure timely preparation of periodical accounts and delivery of audited financial statements
- Treasury: oversee cash planning and management, ensuring optimal liquidity and working capital; manage the company's payables and receivables processes to ensure timely and accurate transactions; oversee debt service
- Tax: oversee tax planning and compliance across multiple entities and international jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to local, national, and global tax regulations; identify opportunities for tax optimization and cost reduction across the organization
Investor Relations
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial reports, investor calls, and updates that meet investor expectations and regulatory standards. Ensure all existing and potential stakeholders can understand the financial performance, vision, and growth strategy
- Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to plan and execute fundraising initiatives, including preparing pitch decks, financial models, and supporting due diligence
M&A
- Identify and evaluate potential M&A opportunities that align with the company’s long-term growth strategy, market positioning, and operational goals
- Ensure that M&A activities deliver measurable value, such as revenue growth, cost synergies, or market expansion, and track progress against pre-defined success metrics
Legal
- Oversee the negotiation, review, and approval of major contracts, agreements, and partnerships to safeguard the company’s interests and align with strategic objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting standards, ensuring the company meets all statutory requirements.
Team & Resource Management
- Lead and develop the finance team, building a well-motivated, high-performance finance organization over time
- Define and manage resources required for company growth. Work with team leads to plan and track budgetary spend.
- Define and implement structures and processes allowing the business to scale in a capital-efficient way.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of financial systems, software, and technologies, with at least 7 years of relevant experience, ideally in a strategic financial role
- Extensive experience in financial planning & analysis, budget control and performance monitoring
- Strong understanding of German HGB accounting, with IFRS knowledge being a plus
- Experience with finance related workflows and cross functional process definition in an ERP System
- Proven experience in managing investor relations with existing and potential investors, including effectively communicating financial performance, company strategy, and growth potential to investors, analysts, and other stakeholders
- Skilled in managing vendor and third-party relationships, collaborating with auditors, legal counsel and other external service providers
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire high-performing finance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Proven resilience and a strong work ethic, with the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and maintain focus on achieving ambitious goals and driving organizational success
- Fluency in English and German
