Therefore we are seeking an experienced Head of Credit.
The Head of Credit Back Office Department will be in a an expert function (no leading function), responsible for credit administration, risk assessment, and compliance with regulatory standards in the lending process. This role requires an in-depth understanding of credit processes, financial analysis, collateral assessment, and regulatory compliance.
Tasks
Credit Analysis and Documentation
- Conduct in-depth credit analysis following regulatory standards, including Minimum Requirements for Risk Management (MaRisk). Gather and review critical borrower information such as annual and interim financial statements, estimated financials, consolidated statements, and ratings from agencies.
- Assess borrower’s financial condition, focusing on both solvency and liquidity ratios, and determine capital adequacy levels to identify potential risks in alignment with bank policies.
Financial Statement and Ratio Analysis
- Perform detailed financial statement analysis, evaluating balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Conduct ratio analysis to assess performance, liquidity, and capital adequacy, ensuring accurate and consistent interpretation of the borrower’s financial health.
Risk and Credit Assessment
- Evaluate credit risks through a standardized assessment and internal rating system, categorizing loans based on potential default risks and recommending actions accordingly. Collaborate with risk management on exposure monitoring, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.
Collateral Evaluation and Processing
- Oversee collateral assessment, ensuring the legal existence and valuation of provided assets. Conduct periodic reviews to verify the sufficiency and enforceability of collateral, including the value reassessment for high-risk or problem loans.
Credit Execution and Administrative Oversight
- Manage the execution of credit agreements, including accurate documentation and secure file maintenance. Ensure timely updates and completeness of records, and enforce adherence to internal controls and loan administration policies.
Preparation of Loan Agreements
- Draft and review loan agreements that account for loan purpose, repayment schedules, and collateral requirements. Include covenants and conditions specific to the loan profile, ensuring that all terms are clear and enforceable.
Management Board Resolution Preparation
- Prepare detailed board resolutions for loan approvals or amendments, summarizing credit assessments and proposed conditions. Present these resolutions to senior management, providing a comprehensive risk and creditworthiness overview.
Borrower Monitoring and Compliance Oversight
- Monitor credit line usage and borrower compliance with established limits, focusing on regulatory restrictions such as the Single Large Loan Ceiling under applicable banking regulations.
- Problem Loan and Intensive Care Management
- Manage loans under intensive care, implementing strategies for recovery or restructuring. Engage with borrowers to develop actionable plans for loan resolution, ensuring alignment with bank policies and minimizing potential losses.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Banking-related qualifications with substantial experience in credit/financing, ideally within the banking or financial services industry.
- Demonstrated ability in credit analysis, financial statement assessment, and loan management.
Skills
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in interpreting financial data and risk indicators.
- Advanced knowledge of German banking regulations and credit assessment frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; German language skills are a plus.
- Proficient in standard office software and credit assessment tools.
Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of the German Banking Act (KWG), Capital Requirements Directive (CRD), and related supervisory regulations.

Familiarity with internal policies on credit risk management and compliance, including adherence to data protection standards.
Reporting Requirements
- Responsible for preparing periodic reports, including quarterly credit reports and annual financial lending summaries, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and internal deadlines.

- Work closely with risk management, legal advisors, auditors, and external credit review bodies. Maintain clear and consistent communication with all relevant departments to ensure unified compliance with policies and procedures.
