Munich-based OroraTech is developing a global constellation of nano-satellites with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings, and various other applications. The new constellation will significantly reduce the detection time of wildfires and allow their near-real-time monitoring, thus empowering first responders, government, and insurance clients and decreasing the chances of megafires developing. OroraTech is developing the first global wildfire intelligence service, which includes early detection, real-time monitoring, risk assessment, and damage analysis capabilities.
Our Munich-based Calibration & Validation team is on the lookout for a committed and talented working student to work on the calibration and validation of satellite data derived wildfire detections. As a vital member of our team, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of our active fire detection capabilities, leveraging the data of the first global satellite constellation for wildfire detection.
Participate in the development and maintenance of our calibration and validation technologies for fire detection using Python
Design and implement fully automated validation pipelines ensuring that our active fire detection product always meets the highest possible quality standards
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
Assist in the troubleshooting, testing, and debugging of our active fire calibration and validation pipelines
Assist during the commissioning phase of our upcoming constellation
Knowledge of Python for data analysis and scripting purposes
Capable of working both independently and within a cross-functional team environment
Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership
Excellent communication skills (!) to interact with different stakeholders within the product development cycle
Currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Geographie, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, with a demonstrated focus on Python programming
At least basic understanding of satellite-based remote sensing and geospatial data handling
Experience with GIS (Geographical Information Systems)
