Tasks

Design & Build Scalable Systems: Own the architecture, development, and optimization of our backend systems - with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and clean code.
End-to-End Ownership: Drive the complete development lifecycle: from requirements engineering, over system design and implementation, to deployment and monitoring.
Shape our Backend Infrastructure: Select and implement modern backend frameworks, tools, and technologies to build a future-proof platform.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product, design, and frontend engineering to deliver seamless features and APIs.
Technical Leadership: Contribute to key technical decisions, perform code reviews, and mentor fellow engineers to foster best practices.

Requirements

Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong portfolio showcasing complex, high-performance web applications
Deep knowledge of backend technologies, ideally Node.js (Express.js)
Experience in designing and building scalable APIs (REST / GraphQL)
Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and caching techniques
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
Passion for clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly motivated and proactive mindset with end-to-end ownership in a fast-paced startup environment
Experience working in agile teams (experience with Shape Up is a plus), with excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate cross-functionally
Fluency in English and good command of German
