As __Lead Cloud Engineer (m/f/d)__ in __Mannheim__, you are responsible for the strategic and operational improvements of the company's cloud platform. The primary focus is on __cost optimization of the AWS environment__ and __supporting all application and platform teams__ in building and maintaining __automated CI/CD pipelines__ for efficient deployments. This role requires technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills across various teams.
__Key Responsibilities__
Cloud Cost Management & Optimization:
- Develop and implement a __cloud cost strategy__ to optimize AWS expenses (e.g., rightsizing, reserved instances, spot instances, FinOps principles)
- Introduce automated monitoring and reporting tools for cost tracking (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth, Kubecost)
- Collaborate with Finance and Procurement to plan and forecast cloud costs
CI/CD & Deployment Automation:
- Own the scalable, secure, and automated CI/CD platform
- Support application and platform teams in setting up and maintaining deployment pipelines (e.g., using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, ArgoCD, Terraform)
- Implement __best practices for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)__ and Continuous Deployment to accelerate release cycles
Platform Architecture & Scalability:
- Ensure the architecture, availability, scalability, and security of the cloud platform
- Introduce and enhance observability, logging, and monitoring systems for a robust platform (e.g., using Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch)
- Ensure security and compliance standards in the cloud environment
Collaboration & Enablement:
- Support all engineering teams in utilizing the cloud platform through best practices, training, and consulting
- Promote and implement self-service platforms for developers to improve productivity and efficiency
- Foster a DevOps and automation culture across the company
The skillset we are looking for
- Extensive experience in __managing__ and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure with a strong understanding of FinOps principles
- Deep knowledge of modern CI/CD technologies and expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi)
- Experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, EKS, and ECS, along with observability and monitoring solutions
- Strong understanding of __security__ and compliance requirements in cloud infrastructure
- Analytical mindset with a focus on efficiency and cost control
- Strong communication skills to work across interdisciplinary teams
