As the Director of Data Engineering at Spark Networks, you will be responsible for leading our data engineering team, overseeing the development and maintenance of our data infrastructure, and driving data strategy to support our business goals. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure our data solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs. 

Requirements

What You'll Do 

• Leadership and Strategy: Lead the data engineering team, developing and executing the data strategy in alignment with business objectives. 

• Team Management: Mentor and guide data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. 

• Data Infrastructure: Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of our data warehouse (DWH) platform, ensuring reliability and performance. 

• Project Management: Manage the productionisation of our new cloud DWH platform, ensuring timely and successful delivery of data projects. 

• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and analytics, to ensure data solutions meet business requirements. 

• Innovation: Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in our data infrastructure and processes. 

• Roadmap Alignment: Aligns with Product, Finance, Analytics, and Marketing on the data engineering roadmap. Ensures data strategies support business objectives.  

• Data Compliance and Reporting: Ensures data compliance with regulations and collaborates with stakeholders to meet their reporting needs. Oversees marketing tracking and reporting systems. Streamlines data ingestion from internal and external sources.  

Who You Are 

• Experienced Leader: 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. 

• Technical Expert: Deep expertise in building and maintaining data pipelines, with strong skills in Python and SQL. 

• Database Knowledge: Extensive experience with relational, analytical, and transactional databases. 

• Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AWS and building data architecture in the cloud. 

• Mentor and Coach: Proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members. 

• Project Management: Strong project management skills, with experience in real-time/"push" based data warehousing. 

• Effective Communicator: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. 

Qualifications 

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering. 

• 3+ years of leadership experience in a technical role. 

• Proficiency in Python and SQL. 

• Extensive experience with relational, analytical, and transactional databases. 

• Hands-on experience with cloud data architecture, particularly on AWS. 

• Experience with real-time data warehousing is a plus. 

• Strong communication skills in English. 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
