THE ROLE

Do you want to help Zattoo increase the scope of our customer-facing product cockpit? We are searching for a Senior Backend Engineer that can push our technology to the next level. We are facing a migration from a Ruby backend to Python and in addition, have many ideas to increase the experience for our B2B customers that want to run a successful Streaming Product based on our Streaming-as-a-Service platform.

THE BRIDGE TEAM

The Bridge tool, built by the Bridge team, is the interface for our B2B customers to everything they need to run a successful streaming product. The Bridge covers all aspects of customer service needs as well as deeper quality of experience insights and analytics. In addition, the tool provides transparency of the customer’s product configuration. Customers can also use it to reach out to their users and customize and personalize their product experience.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Work in a cross-functional Scrum team, alongside other backend engineers, frontend engineers, product managers and product designers.
• Help with the migration of the Bridge Backend from Ruby to Python
• Build services and APIs that are consumed by the team’s frontend, but also by other teams like the Config team
• Integrate 3rd party services (e.g. CMS tools) into our service architecture to enable their usage in our frontends
• Implement and develop improvements to platforms, infrastructure, tools, and processes
• Develop clean and maintainable code
• Collaborate with stakeholders and engineers across the company
• Become a valued member of Zattoo’s Engineering team and improve our core services

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Expert knowledge in Python 3 programming
• Experience in building highly available services and APIs that scale and work efficiently even under the highest load
• Experience in Python-based web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or similar,
• A deep understanding of how web-based platforms work, from client requests to server-side handling to front-end rendering,
• Good understanding of and experience with different data stores and data processing pipelines (Elasticsearch, Redis, MySQL, Scylla, Clickhouse, Kafka)
• Experience with any of the following programming languages are also a plus: Golang, Ruby
• Experience in development and support of production systems used in a 24x7 operations environment
• Experience in testing on different levels and a mindset that sees testing as a foundational part of software development
• Fluent verbal and written English language skills
• Bonus:
  • Experience with migrating Ruby backends to Python
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and/or event-driven architectures with integrated external (3rd party) services
  • Basic Frontend skills to maintain simple Admin UIs (HTML, Javascript, Bootstrap)
  • Proficient skills and DevOps mentality with on-prem and cloud hosting experience
